With the heat of summer coming on full force for many of us, we’ll hopefully see the vigor start to abate and dry weather continue.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made it out to the 2024 Summer Technical Meeting at Bluestone Vineyards in the Shenandoah AVA last week. I know it was tough to fit us in considering the timing of the meeting, and the vigor and work needing to be done in the vineyard. Your time is valuable, and we appreciate your willingness to step away from your vines to join us.

The programming was packed full of information regarding new technology in the vineyard, as well as a thought-provoking primer on Vineyard and Soil Health.

Interest in sharing H2A works was obviously peaked, and if that’s the case, we may pursue it further as we discuss the 2025 Winter Technical Meeting.

Speaking of the 2025 WTM, and the Shenandoah AVA, after much research and discussion, we will be moving to the Hotel Madison in Harrisonburg, for the annual meeting on February 26th and 27th.

Considering the annual rate increase we experienced at the Omni, the decision was made to move. By doing so, we’ve guaranteed rooms rates at $30/night below those offered last year at the Omni, and will be able to include one luncheon as well as breakfasts, something we had to give up to keep costs down in 2024.

The venue is spacious and recently renovated, and the lobby offers more space for us to move around during our wine reception. There are many great restaurants in the area, and because of lowered costs, we’ll once again be offering the New Growers Workshop the day prior to the meeting.

Finally, please make sure to read through the now completed 2023 Virginia Commercial Grape Report, now available on our website at the following link:

Additionally, if you haven’t already filled out the first survey for the 2024 growing year, please do so as soon as possible.

Our industry is constantly changing, evolving, and increasing quality from year to year. The annual report reaches far beyond our state and continues to exemplify the high standards of our growing practices and the quality of the fruit going into our wines and onto the market. We need your input to stay current as we take bigger steps.

On August 1, at Hark Vineyards, the Board will be meeting in person for the final time prior to harvest. We’ll be discussing and finalizing our 5-year Strategic Plan. We welcome anyone who’d like to join us to please do so.

As always, we on the Board appreciate your support, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
