The Jeffersonian Wine Grape Growers Society is currently working on a project designed to better understand all of the components that make up the Monticello AVA. Nate Walsh Takes Office as VVA President

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Nate Walsh of Walsh Family Wine formally assumed office as the new president of the Virginia Vineyards Association during its annual winter technical meeting Friday. He succeeds Tom Kelly, who led the VVA for the past four years. Mr. Walsh was one of five new board members elected by the VVA membership this winter: Ben Margulies is now association Secretary, Jessi Gatewood serves as Treasurer and Carrington King and Skip Causey serve as at-large board members. Ruth Saunders Named Grower of the Year

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Vineyards Association has announced that Ruth Saunders of Silver Creek Orchards in Nelson County is the organization’s 2017 Grower of the Year. The award was presented to Ms. Saunders by Megan Seibel, Assistant Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, at the VVA’s annual winter technical meeting Friday.   Ms. Saunders and her husband, John, have deep roots in Virginia’s agriculture industry. Their families have operated several hundred acres of farmland in Nelson County for generations. They raise cattle and are involved in the growing of apples and a variety of other crops, including wine grapes. Dear VVA members: With the winter tech meeting just a few weeks away, we are deep in the planning phase of our various weekend events. One event for our Thursday afternoon lineup is the new grower workshop, followed by a new grower social. The new grower social provides our new growers/new members the opportunity to interact with our speakers, winemakers and experienced growers.
