Governor McDonnell Announces New Virginia Wine Region Signs – Program Aimed at Promoting Increased Visits to Wineries, Vineyards – RICHMOND – Governor Bob McDonnell today announced the unveiling of a new Virginia wine region sign program aimed at attracting more visitors to Virginia wineries.  The signs will announce to travelers on selected primary and secondary roads that they have entered a particular Virginia American Viticultural Area (AVA) or wine region.  The first phase of this program consists of seventeen signs in four Virginia AVAs and one well-known wine region. On April 19th, Virginia is launching a wine region sign program being implemented as a partnership between the Transportation and Agriculture & Forestry secretariats and the Virginia Wine Board. The first phase of this program consists of 17 signs in 5 of Virginia’s wine regions. This weeks cold overnight temperatures had Virginia grape growers on edge and worried about losing their crop for the year. With the unusually warm weather in March and early bud break it caused, the results of a freeze event would have been devastating. We'd like to hear from you as to how you came through these cold mornings. Also, don't forget to continue scouting for damage throughout the weekend.
