Innovative Under Vine Management Strategies Webcast Alice Wise and Libby Tarleton, Cornell Viticulture Extension on Long Island, are offering a viticulture webinar on Thursday, 10 May from 3:00 to 4:30 PM with two excellent speakers and topics.  First is Dr. Tony Wolf from Virginia Tech presenting Intrarow cover crops and other practices to favorably alter vine growth and canopy architecture, followed by Dr. Ian Merwin from Cornell discussing Vineyard floor management and soil health.  Anyone with a computer and (relatively fast) internet connection can receive this valuable information!  Pre-registration is required to participate – contact Libby at lt68@cornell.edu or call 631-727-3595.

The VWA is pleased to invite you to attend the first of the Virginia Wineries Association's Governor's Cup Case educational series, supported by the Virginia Wine Board and Virginia Vineyards Association. As part of the newly revamped Governor’s Cup competition, educational forums that highlight the viticulture and winemaking practices of the top 12 scoring wines from the 2012 Governor’s Cup competition are being presented. From the VWC: General Assembly Update- Virginia passes a budget! After a few tense days in Richmond this week, the General Assembly passed a budget for FY 2012-2014, although not without a few bumps in the road in the evenly-divided Virginia Senate. The Governor now has a week to review the budget and send amendments to the legislature for final approval, which is expected in early May. The VWC was successful in achieving our budget goals for the 2012 General Assembly Session thanks to the support of many legislators and the House and Senate Budget negotiators in particular.
