Rappahannock Cellars is a premium winery located just outside of Front Royal, VA with 30 acres of estate vineyard and a 15,000 case annual production. We are seeking an individual to fill an Assistant Vineyard Manager position that will oversee daily operations at our 60 acre remote vineyard located near Woodstock, VA. This is a full-time, year-round position. The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications.

  • Minimum three years of vineyard experience, including the operation of various tractors and other related equipment.
  • Strong English communication skills, with additional consideration given for speaking, reading, and understanding Spanish.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to obtain a Virginia Private Applicators License for pesticide application.
  • Ability to work in conjunction with the Crew Supervisor to ensure all work is carried out safely and correctly and in accordance with standard viticultural practices.
  • Possess a working understanding of the vineyard life cycle.
  • Ability to execute all common vineyard tasks such as planting, pruning, spraying, canopy management, harvesting, etc.
  • Ability to identify common vineyard diseases and pests.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate and maintain the various vineyard equipment components, such as tractors, sprayers, mowers, hedgers, de-leafers, etc.
  • Ability to build/maintain fencing and trellis systems.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time and repetitively bend/kneel.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on an as needed basis

The Assistant Vineyard Manager would report directly to the Vineyard Manager and/or Winemaker, and will participate in all vineyard activities, while maintaining a safe and cohesive working environment. Other tasks required of this position could include, basic grounds keeping, building maintenance, equipment repairs and cellar work.
